Netsmart and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing Announce Population Health Partnership to Improve Care Coordination and Use Data to Drive Outcomes for CCBHCs

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Nov. 29, 2021 Netsmart and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing today announced a strategic partnership to enhance care coordination and population health management for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) and their clients. Through this partnership, the National Council will recommend Netsmart CareManager[sup]™[/sup] as the preferred care coordination solution for CCBHCs, health homes and other behavioral health organizations delivering value-based care. Netsmart currently provides solutions and services to more than 100 CCBHCs nationwide and the National Council is a partner to nearly all CCBHCs across the country.
Together, the two organizations will work to develop a national CCBHC outcomes and reporting data repository in conjunction with their member and client partners to highlight how the CCBHC model has transformed behavioral health systems. This repository will provide the National Council and CCBHCs with access to nationwide data showing the impact of CCBHCs on outcomes and cost of care. This data will be leveraged for behavioral health research, benchmarking services and industry advocacy. The data repository will provide CCBHC sites the opportunity to achieve nationwide benchmarks, standardize reporting, understand and improve client outcomes and validate best practices.
“We are thrilled to add Netsmart as a key partner, as they have been a leading advocate for CCBHCs and for integrating physical health with mental health and substance use treatment services for many years,” said National Council for Mental Wellbeing President and CEO Chuck Ingoglia. “Part of what makes the CCBHC model innovative is its emphasis on providing standardized and expanded services. This also comes with an administrative cost, as mental health and substance use treatment organizations often must create and operate new systems for data reporting and care coordination. CareManager helps ease the burden, allowing CCBHCs to better operationalize the data and coordinate care across all services.”
“We believe our enhanced partnership reinforces the National Council’s mission of ensuring all Americans have access to comprehensive, high-quality behavioral health care that affords every opportunity for recovery and furthers the organization’s leading accomplishments,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine. “We are excited for this journey with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, as we can equip CCBHCs with the tools and technology to digitize and transform value-based care coordination across the country to drive improved outcomes for consumers.”
Moving care coordination from a world of spreadsheets to an integrated and intelligent workflow-driven system, CareManager enhances and automates the complex process of operationalizing population health management. The solution aggregates data from multiple sources to provide a holistic view of an individual’s health and social risk profiles to better facilitate coordinated care.
The platform also identifies gaps in care, including social determinants of health (SDoH), helping providers better understand the individuals they serve, support proactive care delivery, improve outcomes and reduce costs. CCBHCs, health homes and other value-based programs have deployed the CareManager solution to assist in saving hundreds of millions of dollars to state Medicaid departments while improving outcomes for consumers.
The CCBHC model enables clinics to deliver a more comprehensive range of mental health and substance use challenge treatment services, providing expanded care while helping lower costs across the behavioral health ecosystem.

About the National Council
Founded in 1969, the National Council for Mental Wellbeing is a membership organization that drives policy and social change on behalf of nearly 3,500 mental health and substance use treatment organizations and the more than 10 million children, adults and families they serve. We advocate for policies to ensure equitable access to high-quality services. We build the capacity of mental health and substance use treatment organizations. And we promote greater understanding of mental wellbeing as a core component of comprehensive health and health care. Through our Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program, we have trained more than 2.5 million people in the U.S. to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges.
