Anywhere for Health Systems™ Delivers Clinical-Grade Cognitive Assessments Remotely
Science-backed, brief remote assessment delivers results comparable to hours-long in-person exam—easing health system strain and expanding patient access
BOSTON – March 18, 2025 –Ninety-two percent of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a precursor of dementia, go undetected, leaving millions without access to early interventions. MCI detection generally requires an in-person screening by a clinician followed by a multi-hour evaluation by a neuropsychologist. But now, health systems have a new, AI-powered remote assessment to ensure timely and sensitive detection without straining busy clinicians, enabling smart triaging and deep insights for clinical decision making—all from the comfort of home.
Linus Health has launched Anywhere for Health Systems™, an FDA-listed, AI-enhanced cognitive assessment that goes beyond traditional remote detection. It’s a fast, convenient assessment tool that patients or their care partners can administer at the request of their primary care provider (PCP) before or after an in-clinic cognitive assessment. This FDA Class II medical device offers a highly accurate, peer-reviewed battery of tests accessing four critical cognitive abilities or domains. With established integrations in major EHR systems, users have the ability to assign assessments directly from the EHR to receive and share results as needed.
Most providers recognize the importance of assessing cognitive function in patients 55 years and older during wellness visits and routine exams, but they often do not have the time due to their busy schedules and large caseloads. As a result, large numbers of patients with MCI go undiagnosed and untreated until it is too late to delay or prevent dementia. At the same time, overburdened healthcare systems are flooded with unnecessary or inaccurate referrals, adding strain to specialists and delaying care for those who truly need it. Anywhere for Health Systems addresses these challenges by enabling patients to complete the tests at home on their laptop, tablet or phone.
For PCPs, the solution generates an intuitive report with a simple positive or negative result, as well as a more detailed breakdown by test and domain for cognitive specialists such as neurologists, neuropsychologists, neuropsychiatrists and geriatricians. Clinicians also have the option to review a recording of the patient’s test, providing additional context for the assessment. This streamlined approach helps rule out patients who do not require further triage, leading to more accurate referrals and earlier interventions. At the same time, it supports billing opportunities for both routine and specialist consultations, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
In a study comparing Linus Health’s remote assessment to a gold-standard three-hour neuropsychological evaluation followed by a diagnosis, the Linus tool was found to have:
• 91% accuracy in detecting mild cognitive impairment
• 95% accuracy in detecting early dementia
“This self-administered test is the solution healthcare systems have been looking for,” said John Showalter, MD, MSIS, chief strategy and product officer at Linus Health. “Used alongside our in-clinic cognitive assessment, this remote test provides additional insights into cognitive health, helping providers pinpoint concerns, refine referrals, and rule out unimpaired patients—all while enabling more personalized and effective care.”
The battery of three proven tests in Anywhere for Health Systems assesses impairment across multiple cognitive domains, including memory and learning, executive function, complex attention, and language. Unlike other cognitive tests, Anywhere for Health Systems employs AI to assess critical behavioral markers such as response speed, hesitation patterns, verbal fluency, and self-corrections.
“This new at-home solution is a powerful addition to our existing clinical suite of in-person digital brain health solutions, increasing access to care and making early identification and longitudinal tracking of patients with MCI and early dementia more convenient than ever for clinicians as well as their patients,” said dementia specialist Alvaro Pascual-Leone, MD, PhD, co-founder and chief medical officer of Linus Health and Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School.
“Expanding detection options while enabling specialists like myself to provide remote review and expert advice to PCPs when needed is game-changing,” Dr. Pascual-Leone said. “We want PCPs to be equipped to triage effectively—identifying early who needs specialist care and prioritizing referrals accordingly. This goes beyond simple screening; it’s about providing convenient, efficient, precise, and reliable assessments that help pinpoint the need for specialist input early on. Specialists also benefit from these assessments, as they gather valuable data that can be incorporated into our evaluations, allowing us to refine diagnoses and offer progressively more precise, actionable insights for patient care.”
By integrating with Linus Health’s broader cognitive health solutions, Anywhere for Health Systems complements existing tools like Radar and the extensive portfolio of digital cognitive assessments and personalized action plans.
“Historically, many cases of MCI have gone undetected because providers juggle numerous patient needs and may lack the time or specialized expertise to identify the condition without additional support,” Showalter said. “Anywhere for Health Systems enhances existing in-office digital assessment tools by making early detection more accessible while delivering comprehensive insights and clinical decision support.”
Showalter added: “The solution not only benefits PCPs by enabling a sensitive and efficient detection of potential cognitive concerns, but it also creates a critical opportunity for clinicians to review findings, triage patients effectively, and ensure timely specialist referrals. For specialists, these assessments provide valuable insights that help refine diagnoses, optimize treatment strategies, and integrate additional tools for greater clarity—ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Now, we can meet patients where they are—quite literally—to identify more MCI cases and drive better care at every stage.”
