Netsmart Advances Decade-Long Commitment to Interoperability Through Qualified Health Information Network® (QHIN™) Designation

Achieving QHIN Designation underscores longstanding dedication to interoperability, supporting more than 6.5 billion queries1 on behalf of clients and empowering organizations to deliver coordinated, value-based care.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug. 06, 2025 — Netsmart, a pioneer in healthcare interoperability, announced today that it has received designation as a Qualified Health Information Network® (QHIN™) under the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA™). Through this milestone, Netsmart continues its ongoing dedication to advancing interoperability strategies to facilitate an open exchange of longitudinal healthcare data─ benefitting individuals receiving care across the healthcare ecosystem.

For more than 10 years, Netsmart has been at the forefront of interoperability efforts, advocating for improved standards like the sharing of behavioral health and substance use data that meet the needs of providers, clinicians, patients and their families. As a founding member of the Carequality network, the organization developed the CareConnect™ interoperability platform, which offers clients a unified system that integrates with the broader healthcare data ecosystem. Additionally, Netsmart has extensive experience in leveraging Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) technologies and was among the leaders to successfully deploy 360X closed-loop referral management standards, enabling more efficient care transitions─so that clients could target better care coordination and reduced medication errors.

"Achieving QHIN designation marks a significant step forward in our commitment to delivering whole-person care,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine “It creates a nationwide on-ramp for interoperability, expanding the types of data and organizations we can collaborate with. This not only enhances seamless data sharing across health systems but also supports our clients’ value-based care and patient outcome goals. We’ve built a simple, standard model to help our clients to participate quickly and effectively, paving the way for a brighter future in healthcare connectivity."

As the first electronic health record (EHR) provider built primarily for human services and post-acute care to become a Designated QHIN, this achievement further solidifies its leadership in advancing interoperability standards and enabling secure, compliant data sharing. Clients and organizations that join the TEFCA network will benefit from broadened nationwide interoperability, expanded data exchange purposes and access to an open, secure healthcare data sharing network that streamlines referrals, coordination and transitions of care.
