Vocera Offers Solutions to Support Nurse Healing During and After COVID-19 Crisis

New CNO Perspective Report Outlines 3-Point Strategy to Help Strengthen Resiliency

SAN JOSE, Calif.- May 13, 2020 - Vocera Communications, Inc. (NYSE:VCRA), a recognized leader in clinical communication and workflow solutions, announced the release of a new CNO Perspective report authored by Chief Nursing Officer Rhonda Collins, DNP, RN, FAAN. Dr. Collins, who was the inspiration of The American Nurse Project, writes a report every year around Nurses Week, examining important issues that impact the nursing profession worldwide.

The 2020 report, titled Nurses Have Stepped Up. Now It’s Time to Support Them as We Move Forward, highlights the mental anguish and physical burdens that COVID-19 has placed on nurses and other front-line healthcare workers as they put themselves in harm’s way to protect others. The report also outlines a strategy to guide hospital leaders moving forward as they strive to support staff members.

“During these unprecedented times, nurses are facing tremendous cognitive and emotional burdens that are taking a toll on their well-being,” said Dr. Collins. “During this Year of the Nurse, we have never had more reason to celebrate and support the men and women who have become the face of the pandemic. Healthcare leaders can honor nurses by giving them needed resources that help them heal from the trauma of this crisis.”

The 2020 CNO Perspective report highlights many of the challenges impacting nurses before, during and after COVID-19. In it, Dr. Collins examines the foundation of cognitive science and outlines a three-point strategy for nurse leaders:

·        Lighten clinicians’ cognitive load by addressing the difference between documentation and communication.
·        Relieve the burden of adapting to multiple systems by giving clinicians control over how they communicate.
·        Provide clinicians with clear, contextual, just-in-time information – using software to enhance workflow, not distract from it.

“Around the world, people are applying lessons learned from the COVID-19 crisis and making plans to better support and protect healthcare workers on the frontlines,” said Brent Lang, chairman and CEO of Vocera. “Dr. Collins’ report is very timely. It offers an excellent roadmap for understanding cognitive overload among nurses and outlines tangible ways to strengthen resiliency.”

On Thursday, May 28, from 3-4 p.m. ET, Vocera is hosting a webinar, where Dr. Collins will discuss details of the 2020 CNO Perspective report. Click here to register for this complimentary event.
