Vocera Vina Smartphone App Wins 2020 MedTech Breakthrough Award

mHealth Solution Designed to Help Mitigate Cognitive Load, Improve Patient Safety

SAN JOSE, Calif.—May 19, 2020-- Vocera Communications, Inc. (NYSE:VCRA), a recognized leader in clinical communication and workflow solutions, today announced that the recently introduced Vocera Vina smartphone application won the MedTech Breakthrough Award for “Best Overall mHealth Solution.”

The MedTech Breakthrough Awards is an independent program devoted to honoring excellence in health and medical related technology, including robotics, telehealth, patient engagement, electronic health records, mHealth, medical devices, medical data and much more. This year’s program attracted more than 3,750 nominations from more than 15 different countries.

“In unpredictable healthcare environments, care teams must connect quickly with the right people and information. Vocera Vina represents a breakthrough in mobile health communications that helps clinicians make informed decisions quickly,” said James Johnson, managing director at MedTech Breakthrough. “We are thrilled to recognize Vocera for this innovative smartphone app and for advancing mHealth solutions.”

Vocera Vina is a customizable communication app that helps clinicians stay focused on what matters most by presenting all incoming communication in order of importance, along with context that provides a meaningful picture of the patient situation. Calls, secure messages, alerts and alarm notifications are prioritized in a unified inbox to provide an intuitive user experience for clinicians inside and outside the hospital. Drawing from a dynamic master directory and intelligent workflow engine of the Vocera Platform, Vina delivers relevant context to the right clinician or care team about clinical events, patient status, and clinician availability, helping care teams improve safety, quality of care, and experience for patients and care teams.

During chaotic situations like the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional workflows are disrupted, and many clinicians take on new roles in different locations. Removing the burden of knowing who is on call or available while quickly delivering prioritized patient information to clinicians at their fingertips saves value steps and time.

Contextual patient information like vital signs, lab values, fall risk scores, and critical data like sepsis risk indicators can be automatically attached to a message or incoming call notification. The entire care team can see the full history of calls, messages, alerts, and alarms pertaining to a patient or event within a single conversational thread, and clinicians can easily see when others are busy or unavailable and should not be interrupted. They also can reach colleagues simply by saying a name, role or group.

“Building an award-winning solution starts with understanding a day in the life of a clinician. We are honored to support frontline healthcare workers and to receive this MedTech Breakthrough Award,” said Brent Lang, chairman and CEO of Vocera. “We worked closely with our customers to design Vina to make workflows easier, mitigate cognitive overload, and improve patient safety.”
