Vocera Smartbadge Wins 2020 BIG Innovation Award

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 22, 2020 – Vocera Communications, Inc. (NYSE:VCRA), a recognized leader in clinical communication and workflow solutions, today announced that the Vocera Smartbadge has been named a winner in the 2020 BIG Innovation Awards presented by the Business Intelligence Group.

The durable, lightweight and intelligent Smartbadge was purpose-built for healthcare and introduced in 2019. Launching a new category of wearable communication devices, the Smartbadge combines hands-free calling capability of the Vocera Badge with smartphone functionality to provide valuable, real-time information to all the people who need it. The device’s 2.4” touchscreen enables clinicians to receive prioritized clinical events, read notifications with patient context, and securely text, helping accelerate care and improve patient safety. Additionally, the Smartbadge has a dedicated, one-touch panic button so healthcare staff can quickly get help in emergency situations.

“Innovation has become a major theme for organizations across virtually all industries and this year’s winners are a testament to the creativity, passion and perseverance of individuals and companies worldwide,” said Maria Jimenez, chief operating officer of the Business Intelligence Group. “We are thrilled to be honoring Vocera as it is leading innovation in healthcare communication and helping improve the lives of care teams and patients they serve.”

Organizations from across the globe submitted recent innovations for consideration in the BIG Innovation Awards. Nominations were then judged by a select group of business leaders and executives who volunteer their time and expertise to score submissions.

“We are excited to receive this BIG Innovation Award for the Smartbadge, especially this year, when Vocera is celebrating its 20[sup]th[/sup] anniversary and 20 years of delivering innovative communication and workflow solutions,” said Brent Lang, president and CEO at Vocera.

The Smartbadge leverages the full software capability of the Vocera Platform – voice calling, messaging, clinical alerts and alarms, and more. Clinicians can reach the right team member by simply saying a person’s name, role or group, and the hands-free device routes alerts and messages directly to specific clinicians based on staff assignments and intelligent rules. The Smartbadge will integrate with more than 150 clinical and operational systems, including electronic health records, nurse call systems, physiologic monitors and more.
