Recondo will “sock” it to hunger atHFMA ANI 2016

LAS VEGAS– June 24, 2016Recondo Technology, a leading provider of cloud-basedrevenue cycle connectivity and applications, announced today that the company has selected ProMedica, a largeMidwestern health system, asits social responsibility partner, to raise awareness that hunger is a real and growing health issue, and to increase underserved communities' access to healthier food.

At thismonth’s HFMA ANI 2016 conference in Las Vegas, Recondo and ProMedica will combineefforts in support of the broader Root Cause Coalition campaign against hunger, founded by ProMedica and AARPFoundation. Recondo will make a donation to the Coalition for every attendee who visits Recondo’s ANI booth (#1056) and engages in a demo of Recondo’s solutions while wearing a set of custom socks delivered to all conference attendees in the weeks prior to the conference.

“We arehonored and excited to join the Root Cause Coalition spearheaded by ProMedica, who is leading the charge among healthcare organizations to eradicate hunger in America,” said Jay Deady, CEO of Recondo. “Shining a light on hunger and food insecurity in America makes great sense for Recondo to take on as a corporate responsibility campaign, as everything we do is aimed at bringing clarity to complex healthcare questions.”

Deadyadded, “Hunger in America is an issue that is long overdue for more insight that can lead to lasting solutions.”

Taking action at ANI

Representativesfrom ProMedica will be in Recondo’s booth throughout ANI to provide insight and expertise on the impact of poor nutrition, obesity and hunger. Booth visitors can also learn how to rethink the revenue cycle by focusing on efficiency, automation and integration with Recondo solutions—all while giving back to the communities in which they live and serve by raising awareness around “hunger as a health issue."

Recondoand ProMedica will continue their social responsibility partnership well after HFMA ANI, throughout the remainder of the year.

Misconceptions about foodinsecurity in the U.S.

ManyAmericans may find it difficult to understand how hunger can exist in the world’s wealthiest economy. The country’s obesity epidemic further confuses the issue, exposing the problem of poor food choices among a rapidly growing segment of the population. The ProMedica anti-hunger campaign focuses in part on explaining the link between obesity and the lack of access to healthy and affordable food especially among lower-income groups. In the absence of healthy food, many people have no choice but to consume cheap but highly processed food that is typically loaded with calories, , according to research on www.rootcausecoalition.org.

Moreover, even developed countries like the United States suffer from hunger and food insecurity. With income inequality at historic levels, many Americans are struggling in the persistent wake of the Great Recession to retain their financial footing. In fact, figures from ProMedica’s Root Cause Coalition indicate that food insecurity is more widespread and severe than commonly understood:

  • Affectsclose to 50 million people in America
  • Existsin every county, rural and urban
  • Almost 75% of federal Supplemental NutritionAssistance Program (SNAP) recipients are seniors, disabled, or working moms and dads
  • Nearly 51% of SNAP recipients exhaustbenefits within two weeks
