ZynxCare Best inKLAS Solution Offers New Evidence-Based Guidance to Better Manage the Effects of Cancer Across the Continuum

Focused interdisciplinary plans of careaddress holistic needs of cancer patients specific to pain management plus issues derived from varied treatments

Los Angeles, April 15 2015 – While there isample clinical evidence detailing the different forms of therapies used against cancer, relatively little attention is given to helping patients cope with the disease’s devastating ancillary effects – and the treatments for it. Zynx Health™, the marketleader in providing evidence- and experience-based clinical improvement and mobile care coordination solutions, announced today it is filling that void with the release of a new cancer content module rounding out its Best in KLAS–rated ZynxCare® solution. The module offers the interdisciplinary care team a holistic approach to the treatment of cancer patients across care settings.

“Cancercare content is consistently a top request from our clients,” said Nan Hou, PhD, RN, deputy clinical editor at Zynx Health. “We created this module to ensure that healthcare organizations have access to the highest quality clinical evidence and plan of care so they can customize and individualize the content to meet the needs of this growing population.”

Thismodule addresses the interdisciplinary management of commonconditions associated with cancer and cancer treatment, such as esophagealirritation, a lack of energy, and general body pain. The content covers treatment of physiological symptoms as well as related side effects. The content also goes beyond the physical to focus on psychological, psychosocial, and spiritual issues deemed critically important to ensuring patients become and remain engaged in their own treatment. The goal is to expand the focus from simply treating the disease to helping the whole person in order to improve care across a patient’s entire journey.

Previews of the new cancer care content have garnered praisefrom hospitals. McLaren Port Huron Hospital in Port Huron, Mich., a recipient of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer's Outstanding Achievement Award, is eager to integrate the content into its new cancer center as part of its outpatient survivorship program. “This is a highly comprehensive plan of care specifically tailored to survivors and current patients with cancer,” said John Schweihofer, RN, nurse manager of McLaren Port Huron’s oncology unit.

Bill Arnold, RN, nursing informatics manager from ErieCounty Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y., agrees that the usefulness of Zynx Health’s new cancer care content will be significant. “With ourincrease in patients receiving chemotherapy, this content will be of great help in developing our plan of care,” he said.

Carolyn Richardson, MSN, MBA, RN-BC, regional nursing officerat Zynx Health adds, “The treatment of cancer poses overwhelming challenges to the U.S. health system, among them rising costs and short- and long-term physical and mental health issues. We’re excited to introduce this cancer content module which we strongly believe will greatly improve the healthcare experience and hopefully the ultimate goal of better outcomes.”
